Pay Order Signed by Signer Elbridge Gerry's Father-in-Law

July 30, 1796, Colonial Pay Order Signed by Elbridge Gerry's Father-in-Law, James Thompson, Very Fine.
Manuscript Document Signed, "Ja(me)s Thompson", Pay order on fine-laid paper, July 30, 1796, no location, 3.25" x 4". It reads, in full: "No. 3774. I certify that there is due to John Philby the sum of twenty six Dollars 30/100 being for nineteen days service at thirteen pounds ten shillings per month. C. C. July 30th 1796. Ja(me)s Thompson". James Thompson was the father of Ann Thompson Gerry, who met and married Elbridge Gerry, the Revolutionary War statesman from Massachusetts. The small document has a scalloped left edge, and the manuscript and print are extremely bold and easy to read. The signature is located in the lower right corner, and measures 1.75". An interesting find.
