Imminent Invasion By The French Is Feared In 1798 May 4, 1798 Napoleonic War Letter From England. A historic content Autograph Letter dated May 4, 1798 from a British writer to his correspondent in Boston, Massachusetts, received per its docket, on August 22, 1798, measuring 12.25" x 7.75", Very Fine. This letter is well written and very legible, containing various lamentations about the situation in Britain (a mere fifteen years after the end of the Revolutionary War). The writer expresses fear of an imminent invasion by the French of Britain and he bemoans the heavy taxation levied upon the people there. The only bright note mentioned is that the author lives in an inland town, well enough away from any expected battle lines. This letter has great content with a contemporary view of life in England during the Napoleonic Wars. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
