Civil War Union Documents
Printed Civil War Draft Registration Form August 28, 1862, Partly-Printed Document Signed, "N. Gilbert," Draft Registration Form, About Fine. This is a one page, 5.5" x 8", document headed in elaborate print: "Office of the United States Deputy Marshal," issued in Franklin, [Pennsylvania] to William Gay notifying him that he has "been enrolled as a Citizen, within the Township of Franklin in the said county, liable to Military service." The document cautions that "If you claim exemption from any cause, the claim will be received and determined by the Commissioner to be appointed for that purpose for this county, at such time and place as he shall specify by handbills to be posed in said Township..." Gay did not claim any exemption as he was mustered into Company F of the 16th Pennsylvania Cavalry on October 7, 1862, leaving the service on August 11, 1865. The document bears numerous creases, light toning, and a few very minor marginal tears. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
