NGC Certified 1856 Dated "Charleston" (SC) Slave Tag 1856 Charleston (SC), "SERVANT" Slave Identification Tag, NGC Certified "GENUINE," Very Fine. Absolutely authentic and NGC Certified as "GENUINE" with the identification tag number 1901. This Slave Tag is diamond shaped, measuring 48 mm wide x 50 mm tall, Copper, with a small round hole punch at top for suspension, having clear and evenly worn surfaces. The "1856" date is very clear, as well as "SERVANT". This Slave Tag is unquestionably original and authentic with a natural light surface patina and a reddish-brown color, that appears likely to have been cleaned long ago. The complete text reading: "CHARLESTON - 1901 - SERVANT - 1856". This example is above average of a typical quality example for an authentic Slave Tag and being of the Type shown in the 2004 reference book, "Slave Badges and the Slave Hire System In Charleston, SC 1783-1865," by Greene & Hutchins.
