North Carolina Currency
Magnificent April 2, 1776 $1/16 "Griffin" Vignette Rarity

North Carolina. April 2, 1776 Halifax Issue. One Sixteenth of a Dollar. "Griffin" vignette. PASS-CO graded Extremely Fine-40.
One of the very top, of the very few known, examples. Rarely does one encounter a low denomination of this issue to approach anything better than Very Good. This note is clean in appearance with remarkably sharply black printed text and vignette. Every tiny detail of the "Griffin" vignette is sharp and distinct. The blank reverse side is clean and free of even the slightest trace of old notations or graffiti, as typically found on notes from this issue. Trivial traces of an old removed hinge at the top reverse center and corner tip can be seen under a strong light. The buyer of this note will likely never find a better specimen. It is the finest note we have ever offered of this denomination and worthy of a world record price. Personal inspection is recommended to attain a full appreciation for its inherent eye appeal. Ex: EAHA Auction, April 20, 2002, Lot number 652, where it sold at $2,160.
