Extremely Rare 1814-Dated "Land" Lottery Ticket January 27, 1814 (War of 1812 Era), Columbia (PA.), $200, Land Lottery Ticket for Winning a Property Lot, Choice Very Fine. Partially-Printed Date. This very rare Printed Lottery Form is dated 1814 and Unlisted, this being the first we have seen. It reads: "PURCHASER PROMISES TO PAY $200 FOR A DEED FOR ANY LOT IN COLUMBIA EXTENDED THAT IS DRAWN AGAINST THIS CERTIFICATE NO. 18. PAYABLE TO DANIEL MUSSER & RUDOLPH HERR THEIR HEIRS OR ASSIGNS." It is signed below by "Christian Groff" and witnessed by "Jos.(eph) S. Eshleman. This lottery for a lot shows that Columbia, PA. was extended in size in 1814, with such lots of land being sold off in a Lottery format. A concept which continues in use even today.
