[Basel: c. 1550]. Double-page woodcut map (398 x 300mm), from the Cosmographia, Italian text on verso. Condition: marginal browning, occasional light spotting, old paper guard on verso of fold.. munster's curious "upside down" map of Europe, orientated to the south with the north sea at the bottom and the mediterranean at the top, Along with major cities, this interesting woodcut shows forests, rivers, and mountain ranges. the map appeared in both his Geographia and his Cosmographia. [With:] MUNSTER, Sebastian. Africa / Libya / Morland mit allen künigreichen so zü unsern zeiten gefunden werden. [Basel: c. 1574/8]. Double-page woodcut map (375 x 297) from the Cosmographia. German text on verso. Condition: light browning, small worm-hole to lower right.. A classic map of Africa, Munster shows the source of the Nile as an imaginary series of lakes and mountains, and fills the interior with animals and crowns.
