London: Printed for John Stockdale, 1812. 2 volumes. 4to (310 x 250 mm). 29 folding plates and maps (20 hand-colored), 28 plates (25 hand-colored), 26 vignettes (22 hand-colored). Later blue cloth, lettered in gilt on spines. Condition: one folding plate with tape repairs to verso, some light thumbsoiling; shelfwear and scuffing to covers. a clean, wide margined copy with many uncut pages. A very fresh copy of Pallas' comprehensive travel narrative. Pallas describes the costumes, buildings and occupations of the people he encountered while crossing Russia, and particularly in the Crimea. The finely hand-colored plates include fine views of the land and sea-scapes as well as the people Pallas encountered.
