[Basel: c. 1571]. Double-page woodcut map (4000 x 300mm) from the Cosmographia , Italian text on verso. Condition: light staining to upper and lower margins, occasional browning. munster's ptolemaic world shows the eastern hemisphere from the north pole to the equator. Following ancient inaccuracies, the Indian Ocean is drawn as a vast, self-contained sea, with the source of the Nile as an imaginary series of lakes and mountains.
