Original coarse tan cloth with blue spine title and orange title to cover, top edge stained orange, in unrestored original jacket designed by Arthur Hawkins; original unprinted glassine overwrapper present. Condition: jacket spine lightly faded as often, few minor, tiny closed edge tears to jacket panel bottom edges, minor creasing at spine ends; original glassine with only minor shelf wear, a desirable copy. first edition, a completely unrestored copy with the original glassine. Begun in the summer of 1931 and published in the fall of the following year, this novel was one of Faulkner's more troubling to write. A lenghty manuscript was labored over, revised and amended before being delivered to his agent Ben Wasson. Faulkner remarked that the title referred to the quality of light in the South.
