London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1883. 8vo (180 x 115 mm). Original gray-green cloth illustrated in red. Condition: endpapers lightly tanned, faint spot of foxing to title; minor rubbing to extremities. the true first edition, with uncancelled title page. While the present title was not officially issued until 1884, it was slated for publication in 1883, until it was decided by the publisher to hold it over. Printed copies had the 1883 title pages excised and new ones inserted as cancels. The present is certainly one of only a handful to survive in the present uncancelled state. A true rarity for Jeffries collectors.
