"Near Rodney Mississippi": 28 January 1843. 1 p., single sheet (255 x 200 mm). Signed "Z. Taylor." Written in blue ink. Condition: usual folds. "... I can state with great pleasure that while on duty with you in Florida ... you not only rendered highly important services to the country as well as in the opinion of a very large majority of your associates in arms, fully sustained yourself in the responsible station you occupied as an officer & a gentleman as well as the high character of the gallant State you represented on that occasion ..." Smith would go on to serve with distinction in the Mexican War.
