Washington: 12 October 1866. 1 p., folded sheet with integral blank (250 x 200 mm). Head Quarters Armies of the United States stationery. Condition: usual folds, minor soiling. grant thanks the artist for a portrait of lincoln. "The proof copy of line engraving of the late President Lincoln, executed by you, and which you ahve done me the honor to send me, was duly received. It has been pronounced by much better judges of the art then myself to be admirably executed and a most faithful likness of the original. So far as capable of judging I concur in this view.
