AMERICAN REVOLUTION -- Massachusetts. The Proceedings of the Council, and the House of Representatives Of the Province of the Massachusetts-Bay, relative to the Convening, Holding and Keeping the General Assembly at harvard-College in Cambridge. Boston: Edes and Gill, 1770. [3]-80 pp., 8vo (200 x 125 mm). Lacks the half-title. Stitched self-wrappers. Condition: tear to title with loss of several letters. This pamphlet contains the text of correspondence between Governor Thomas Hutchinson and the Massachusetts House of Representatives, the latter's contributions largely written by Samuel Adams, John Adams and John Hancock. At issue was the Governor's removal of the House to Cambridge in an attempt to separate the representatives of the people from the revolutionary influences in Boston following the Boston Massacre. Hutchinson "provoked a constitutional crisis in Massachusetts and instigated a controversy which lasted for more than two years" (Lord & Calhoon, "The Removal of the Massachusetts General Court from Boston" in Journal of American History, vol. 55, no. 4, pp. 735-755).
