Boston: Charles Williams, 1812. 12mo (173 x 102 mm). 5 engraved plates, including the first published view of cincinnati. Contemporary calf, spine panelled with single rule. Housed in a half morocco slipcase. Condition: lacks errata slip as usual, scattered light toning, a bit heavier to plates; very light rubbing to joints and spine ends. Provenance: Frank C. Deering (bookplate). first edition of "one of the most important of western narratives and the earliest authentic relation of a captivity among the sioux" (Eberstadt). Cutler was an army officer and while the travels described herein are his, the Indian captivity is the account of fur trapper Charles Le Raye.
