Condition: evidence of disbinding along the gutter margin, minor small brown spot. Provenance: J. Colt (contemporary signature). first general newspaper printing of the monroe doctrine. The Monroe Doctrine, which asserted that European powers would no longer colonize or interfere with the affairs of the independent nations of the Americas, was first printed as a newspaper extra on 2 December, the date of the address. That printing is known in but three copies. An equally rare 3 December Daily National Intelligencer printing came next and this general printing followed.
