Oblong small folio (230 x 300 mm). 66 lithographed plans printed in red and black and hand-colored in blue and pink. Each plan preceded by a single page of letterpress explanation. Publisher's green half morocco over green pebbled cloth, original owner's name stamped in gilt on the upper cover. Condition: minor foxing, minor dampstaining. Provenance: William M. Graham. comprehensive survey of the manhattan piers on the east river. Undertaken by the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund to evaluate the cost of repairing the slips and the economic benefits of doing so, this atlase provides a wealth of information about piers that no longer exist. The volume covers the East River from Whitehall to 130th Street; a companion volume was issued covering the Hudson River piers. "The report is illustrated by careful drawings of all wharves, piers, and slips, giving dimensions, construction, cost, present value, recommendations for alterations, extensions, repairs, etc." (Stokes).
