(12mo) 6½x3¾, period half-calf and marbled boards.Early edition in English of Berquin's classic stories for children. The translator's preface is dated December, 1786. Berquin was influenced by the rational moralism of Rousseau; he is considered the first French author to write solely for children. The frontispieces depict dramatic moments from the stories.
