It is described as slightly raised rows of horizontally connected plus signs. Rare to find a copy like this one, most first printings bashed up the left side of page 50, and to have an unblemished page (look at the first word of line 22 and 23, an unblemished "s" in stake and "o" in one) is uncommon.
