Chicago Tribune famous issue that erroneously announces Truman's presidential defeat. As we all know, Truman actually won and this is the most famous journalistic mistake of the century. The date is November 3, 1948. The headline reads: "Dewey Defeats Truman" . This is one of the most sought-after papers by collectors because most of the issues were taken off the stands when the Tribune realized its error. Only 2000 were estimated to have reached private hands and most have disappeared since 1948. Unusually nice at the fold, with just a slight bit of wear at the spine (minor wear which does not impact the text). This issue is missing a small piece from the top left blank margin, but is only minimally noticeable since the margin on the page underneath is also blank. The issue did have a tear running through the top left portion, but it has been archivally mended.
