Signer of the Declaration of Independence, American Statesman. One page, partially printed, 6.5" x 8.5", Boston, Massachusetts, November 14, 1782 at which time representatives from the United States and the Kingdom of Great Britain sign preliminary peace articles which were later formalized in the Treaty of Paris. For 15 years after the first signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 by John Hancock, the United States was still not an independent nation until their victory at Yorktown in 1781 which sealed the American victory over the British. This document directed to pay "Hon'ble Nath[aniel] Gohham Esq., Speaker to the Hon'ble House of Representatives the Sum of Thirteen pounds & eight pence in full. . . for Forty six days attendance as Speaker over & above his pay as a Member of said House." Docketing on verso. Signed, "John Hancock". Hancock's signature is bold and prominent, very similar to his famous Declaration of Independence signature. Perfect for display!
