Signer of the Declaration of Independence, American Statesman. Document signed appointing Jahleel Woodbridge to Justice of the Peace for the County of Berkshire. Partly printed, one page, 11.5" x 19", Massachusetts, February 16, 1781, just two weeks before the Articles of Confederation were ratified by Congress. For 15 years after the first signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 by John Hancock, the United States was still not an independent nation until their victory at Yorktown in 1781, the same year Hancock signed this document, which sealed the American victory over the British.Engrossed and countersigned by John Avery as Secretary. Signed, "John Hancock". Document is in very good condition with some restoration to separations at folds and paper added to replace loss at lower left margin.
