"Grandma"s House" by V. Epler (1926-2005); print

"Grandma"s House" by V. Epler (1926-2005); print; size: 16,5"x19,5", with frame: 21,5"x27"; Biography: Venetia Epler works with her sister, Daphne Huntington. Together, the sisters studied painting at Slades, and stained glass at the London School of Arts and Crafts, both in London, England, and the Ecole de Louvre in Paris, France. They are direct descendants of the artist brothers, T.C. Farrer and Henry Farrer, renowned etchers and painters. Venetia is also known both for her portraits and murals. Her themes are varied, and she uses a uniquely rich approach in doing her work. It would be correct to characterize her as a California Impressionist, although this categorization does not completely explain her work. While she did work in the traditions of the American West, she has painted still life, grand landscapes, and deep religious works, all in the lively brushwork we do associate with these kinds of works. Her Life of Christ mural, done along with her sister Daphne Huntington, was rendered in mosaic and is one of the many works of devotional art commissioned by Forest Lawn. It can be found at their Christian Heritage Museum in Covina, California. Dedicated in 1975, it is the world's largest Christian mosaic. In addition to this work, her portrait of President Dwight Eisenhower hangs in the White House.
