Chicken Feed; Watercolor by Boehler Joe; Size: 16"x20"; Joe Boehler (1945) was raised on his family's ranch near Augusta, Montana, and the life he experience in rural America echoes across his canvas. His talent for shaping our focus on those everyday places and occurrences that so often go unnoticed is one of his greatest assets. Before becoming a full-time fine artist, Joe spent several years doing commercial work in Montana and with Hallmark Cards in Kansas City. Now living in Colorado, Joe is a member of the AWS and NWR. He is a consistent award winner at major art exhibitions including a silver medal at the prestigious Allied Artists of America Exhibition and the recipient of the jurors' award for best of show at the C.M. Russell auction. Of his own work, he has said, "A painting should contain an aura of mystery. I try to protect a feeling that goes beyond the basic sky, trees, and ground." Paul Rossi, former director of the Gilcrease institute, has written: "Joe can turn an old backyard with clutter and a bunch of chickens into an exceptionally fine piece of art while most artists would pass it up as unimportant. When you strip away all else, this kind of sensitivity, eye, and finesse are the marks of a true artist.
