Californian Seascape; Oil on canvas by Charles Henry Harmon; Size: 17"x10"; Charles Henry Harmon (1859-1936). Landscape and coastal painter in Colorado and California.
Born in Mansfield, Ohio, Charles Henry Harmon moved to San Jose, California as a youngster in 1874. At a young age, he was apprenticed to Louis Lussier, a local portrait painter. He also worked in a photography studio retouching negatives. He had no formal art training but loved to visit galleries in San Francisco and began painting in the Santa Clara Valley. He was also commissioned by railroads in Denver, he specialized in remote landscapes in California and rail scenes.
