Description:

Created in 1958, Nebula is an exciting intellectual piece that blends the artistic and scientific sensibilities of Miro. Composed of red, blue, yellow and green circles floating along a black ring, these elements orbit around a curiously human-like figure that is punctuated by a star form and unidentifiable symbol.

Nebula is numbered 33/100 in the lower left. This work was published and printed by Maeght, Paris, 1958, and printed on Arches vellum. There is a guaranteed authentic signature by Miro in pencil in the lower right hand side of the work.

A nebula is defined as a cloud of interstellar dust that absorbs and reflects radiation, thereby becoming visible as a luminous patch in an otherwise dark environment. Miro's luminous nebula is filled with bright and crisp dots of color that are accentuated by the black background of the circular orbit path. Perhaps the most curious element of this work is the horizontal human figure in the center of the orbit that is also mysteriously encased in a black background. While the color dots along the orbit line evoke a sense of movement, the figure is in a contrasting stagnant state. In this sense, this figure becomes more alive by virtue of the orbiting dots. The entire work embodies the classic playful and intellectual qualities of Miro's trademark style. This work features natural deckle edges at the right and left, and torn deckle edges at the top and bottom. Colors are bright and crisp-this work is in wonderful condition!

About the Framing:
Conservation framed, this work is float mounted in a lovely gold frame with museum quality archival materials. The gentle wave pattern in the moulding is the ideal compliment to this Miro work. A sense of movement and energy moves between the curvilinear forms within the frame and the actual piece. Framing features white linen wrapped mattes, a matching gold inner fillet, and Plexiglas cover.

Style: 20th Century Modern Master, Surrealism
