Description:Bold and vibrant, this monumental work is a quintessential Miró image with the dark blacks and solid primary hues. A playful creature emerges in the center of the work, giving us the impression that this is a scene out of some fantastic fairy tale with a unique twist.
Created in 1973, this original color lithograph is signed by Miro in pencil in the lower right and numbered 4/75 in the lower left. Printed on Guarro paper by La Poligrafa, Barcelona, this work was published by Edicions Poligrafa, Barcelona. This is the exclusive edition printed aside from the larger book edition with the printed signature.
Using his intuitive skill and revisiting familiar characteristics from his other works, this piece contains playful elements with some slightly daunting undertones. Unsure what this creature could possibly be, we are left to guess by inspecting the various attributes of its form. A large figure eight makes up the figure’s head, with a vibrant red eye, and strange linear appendages covered in a rich green background, creating the body of the whimsical creature. Surrounding this playful creature are delicate black stars and a subtle color burst of purple. The integration of ethereal color spots with the bold black lines creates a dynamic and unique artwork that captivates our attention and inspires our imagination.
