Description:Created in 1957, this original color lithograph was published by Maeght éditeur, Paris after an original oil on canvas by Joan Miró. Numbered 129/300 in pencil in the lower left margin (out of a total edition of 300), this work is hand signed by Joan Miró (1893 – 1983) in pencil in the lower right and printed on Arches script watermarked paper.
Evoking the cool and crisp air just after a storm, Miró is able to delve into our subconscious and utilize abstract figures, animals, and stars to create this fantastic piece. The background is shaded in a grayish brown with highlights of green and orange; it has been applied with a faint echo of translucence similar to a watercolor – reference the rainy clouds just after the storm. Our marine-inspired characters anchor the scene while all is held in with a beautifully patterned, spotted inner frame.
