This beautiful explosion of color exudes a subtle femininity and grace; presumably used to illustrate the poem by Jacques Prévert which is often featured in conjunction with this work:
1. La peinture
Ne se reproduit pas en captivité
Fernand Mourlot le sait,
Il la laisse libre.
Elle lui en sait gré.
[I. The painter

She is grateful towards him.]
