"California Street"; Oil on canvas by Blaine Henrie Paul; Size: 24"x36"; Paul Blaine Henrie was born in Florida in 1932. Over the years, he has developed an unique and powerful visual language that has become familiar to serious art collectors throughout the world. One early series of his paintings records the crumbling ruins of Florida venture by John Ringling North. Called "Ringling's Folly", the series deals with an amusement center abandoned 40-years ago, now overrun and nearly reclaimed by tropical growth. The paintings are nostalgic and evocative of a vibrant period in the history of America Entertainment, recalling to those who still remember the days of the big tent, the transience of even the most dramatic elements of our lives.
Henrie's watercolors and oil's communicate his intense energy and his love of the splendor of the tropics. The kinetic swirling of color and form characterize his work, which ranges in subject from familiar Southern California scenes to go to the Islands of the South Pacific…from Florida to the interior of Mexico. In the mid – 1960's. Paul Blaine Henrie lived and crated in with Southern California His works have been included by Vincent Price in his "American Collection", and in the collections of England's Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon. Among his Hollywood collectors are actors Glenn Ford and George Montgomery. It is now almost universally agreed that Paul Blaine Henrie is destined to figure in the history of American Art.
