Vegetation; Oil on board by Charles E. Burchfield; Size: 18"x14"; Charles Ephrain Burchfield(1893-1967) was an American watercolor painter from Ashtabula Harbor, Ohio. He studied at the Cleveland Art School before moving to Buffalo, NY, in 1921, where he headed up the design department of M.H. Birge and Sons wallpaper company. Later on Burchfield has been teaching at Art Institute of Buffalo.
He was known for his fantasy-like woodland and landscape scenes and his pictures of the houses and streets of Midwestern towns. His paintings are in the collections of many major museums in the USA and have been the subject of exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, as well as other prominent institutions. He was a close friend and colleague of famed American artist, Edward Hopper.
