Interesting Rosenthale porcelain sculpture of a lioness dragging a young gazelle beneath her body, holding it in her jaws by the throat. The beautifully-modeled animals feature a fine white glaze and selective coloring in blended hues of light tan and dark gray; the gazelle's protruding tongue is colored pink. The narrow rectangular base is impressed with the artist's signature and date, "T. Karner 1918" and imprinted underneath with the mark of Rosenthale, the Bavarian manufacturer. "WEIR 1924" handwritten on the underside of the base is probably the inscription of a previous owner.
Dimensions: 12½"H x 4½"W x 25"L Condition: Excellent; a gentle cleaning should remove some dust and occasional soiling. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
