Pair of chinese coconut-shell bowls probably manufactured in the nineteenth century. On the exterior of each dark brown lathe-turned bowl, an intricate hand-carved register shows Four (4) Chinese Shou designs symbolizing longevity, along with the magical treasures of the Eight Immortals, which symbolize good fortune.
Dimensions: 1st bowl 2"H x 4-1/2 diameter, foot 1/4"H x 1-7/8 diameter; 2nd bowl 2"H x 4-7/8" diameter, foot 1/4"H x 2-3/8" diameter Condition: Consistent with age; some scratching and gouging, a few small white marks on the first bowl. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
