Charming figure of a boy holding a goldfish is a Japanese hand-painted clay Hakata figure known as a Gosho Ningyo, or Court Doll. The Hakata Ningyo, or "Hakata Doll", is a traditional Japanese clay doll, originally from the city of Fukuoka, part of which was previously named Hakata before the city merger in 1889. This example, made c. 1950, includes a maker's mark on the bottom painted in Japanese characters and a low black rectangular painted-wood base.
