An unsigned work of penmanship in ink on paper by Zachariah Reynolds of Washington County, Pennsylvania. Circa 1810, this image is executed on a 4.5 X 7 inch sheet of paper and is attributed to Zachariah Reynolds who was well known for his penmanship. On the reverse is a near complete written document that reads, 'Zachariah Reynolds doth agree to teach... Reading, Writing & Arithmetic as far as he is capable of for the space of three months in school House on Reynolds Land. I consideration we the subscribers do promise to p the said Z. Reynolds his order or assigns th sum of one Dollars and Twenty-five cents likewise agree the said Z. Reynolds ...also to put and keep the school House in good rep..........' This work is from a group of twenty works that recently surfaced in the possession of Zachariah Reynolds' descendants. An affidavit of provenance from these descendants accompanies this piece.
