An intricate, exacting, studied embroidery of pale blue stitching on cobalt blue silk. The design mirrors itself and has stitching in the middle. It may have been originally intended as robe pieces that were later sewn together to be used as a table covering.
A deep cobalt blue rectangular silk cloth that has been embroidered with white, pale blue, and medium blue silk threads in a pattern of flowers and waves. The embroidery is a tight satin stitch. The embroiderer invested much time in this large scale hand embroidery. There is a repeating pattern silk brocade border in white, green and purple. This strip forms a frame for the central round medallions featuring a central rose bordered by other flowers. Each end of the cloth is embroidered with crashing waves. The designs are almost identical except bugs with antennae and flowers are slightly different. The piece is backed by an off-white linen or cotton backing.

CONDITION There is a small reddish stain on one flower. One round looks like it might be missing a flower on the circle edge. There are some fold wrinkles. The embroidery is still tight with no loose threads. The colors are bright and not faded. The backing has a few discoloration spots.
A delicate old Chinese silk embroidery that will enhance your décor or would also be suitable for framing.
