having a laurel band to the waist, the handles modeled as bundled wheat issuing from acanthus and acorns raised on a stepped, spreading foot. Inscribed, "To David Warfield From David Belasco and Edward G. Gilmore, a Memento of His Engagement at The Academy of Music, New York City, January 28th to February 23rd 1907"; below an etched and chased portrait of David Warfield reads,"" There are many kind hearts in the world", Herr Von Barwig, Act III, The Music Master""; below, a trophy emblematic of the performing arts. Marked, "Tiffany and Co., 15046, Makers, 1907 Sterling Silver 925-1000, C 19 Pints D". 181 troy ozs. Notes: David Warfield (1866-1951) was a San Francisco born character actor. In the 1890's Warfield moved to New York City and became a crowd favorite at the Casino Theatre. Producer, playwright and director David Belasco chose Warfield to play Anton Von Barwig in "The Music Master" in 1904. He played the part for three years and returned to it in intervals as late as 1916. 15.25"H x 15.25"W, Circa - 1907.
