ABT: Rare Beggs Live Steam Train in Org. Crate

Sign In to see what this sold for

Paul V. Ambrose and Drew J. Bauer present: Eugene Beggs of Patterson New Jersey began manufacturing live-steam toy trains around 1871. By the late 1890s, faced with heavy competition from other American Firms and European manufacturers, Beggs made his most deluxe train set. This Set features an American 4-4-0 (but made as a 2-4-0) Live Steam Engine and two Wood/Cardwood Passenger Cars (one primarily Dark Blue and one primarily Yellow), a circle of Track (Beggs drivers were pre-set to only travel in a circle; the track is pre-numbered underneath each section so that one knows how to assemble it) and the original wooden crate the set was sold in. We believe that the cab, coal box and roof of the Steam Engine have been at some time replaced and some of the wheels/truck supports on the cars are not original. Our Opinion is that the Set, given its age, is generally in Very Good Minus Condition. A very presentable set for any premium collection; such a complete crated example has not been for sale for more than 20 years. The Original Crate is in very nice condition. Please add $150.00 for US-48 Shipping and Insurance.
