Paul V. Ambrose and Drew J. Bauer present: This is the #6475 Heinz Pickle Vats Car that Lionel made in the 1960s. As we noted in our Guide to Lionel trains, Volume V. Rare and Unusual, "[i]n the late 1960s a Heinz vat car could be purchased for less than $10.00. One enterprising dealer has the Heinz labels professionally printed and personally applied them to previously decorated 6475 pickle cars. The primary purpose of this venture was to move inventory during a slow time. We believe that sixty-five to seventy such cars were made. Although professionally printed, some of the printing was not of the best quality, which accounts for some color variations in the label; green shades vary, and the pickle colors are not consistent. . . The Heinz vat car is collectable as a curio." After our book was published, we have been informed that several knowledgeable collectors have purchased an example of this curio for several thousand dollars. Our Opinion is that this item is generally in Like New Minus Condition, minor signs of use and age. No Box. All Original in our Opinion as stated herein. Please add $20.00 for US-48 Shipping and Insurance.
