Paul V. Ambrose and Drew J. Bauer present: This is the uncatalogued #19338 Military Set that Lionel made circa 1964. Included are the #1061 Scout-type Engine, the #1061T-50 Slope-Back Tender, the #6042-100 Olive Gondola, the #6167-125 Olive SP-type Caboose, the #1026 25-Watt Transformer and 10 Payton Products Soldiers. This military-related Outfit is a possible Pre-Production sample of the Set that was ultimately sold to All Trade and Firestone by Lionel. It is very similar to the Outfit pictured and discussed on page 681 of the outstanding book on Lionel's Promotional Outfits by John W. Schmid. This particular Gondola and Caboose are decaled "MARINES" and the Gondola also bears the number "212". Pictured in the photo of Schmid's Book are Payton Soldiers, and to quote the caption, "Specifically, the gondola and caboose appear to be decaled prototypes. Curiously, the soldiers are Payton soldiers and not MPC. This suggests that Lionel may have thought of purchasing the soldiers from Payton". Be advised, we have never seen corroborating examples of the two decaled items included with this Lot; therefore, we cannot say with certainty that they are genuine Lionel Prototypes. Our Opinion is that all items are generally in Excellent Condition although there is a broken step on the caboose. No Boxes. Please add $30.00 for US-48 Shipping and Insurance.
