The late-1927 introduction of the Ford Model A was a long-awaited event, with extensive pre-launch advertising and interviews with Henry Ford. Indeed, Ford perfected the art of effective product placement in one of the most successful new car launches in automotive history.

Paradoxically, the new Model A was more complex, yet easier and simpler to operate than the old Model T. A new inline four-cylinder engine produced twice the output of the previous Model T, and the exterior styling featured Lincoln design cues, giving the Model A fresh, modern styling. On April 25, 1929 the handsome new Model 150-A Station Wagon was added to the lineup, and it holds the distinction of being the first vehicle of its kind to be made available by a primary manufacturer.

While the new Station Wagon was still linked in the public eye to Ford's commercial vehicle line, the vehicle shared most of its basic components and front bodywork with the regular passenger car line. The distinctive wooden bodies were assembled by both Murray and Baker-Raulang using maple with birch paneling. The 150-A Station Wagon offered spacious accommodations for up to eight passengers, while the two rows of removable rear seats improved cargo capacity. Priced from an affordable $650 when new, the 150-A Station Wagon started a trend of stylish utility that continues to this day.

The 1929 Ford Model A Station Wagon offered here is a delightful example that was formerly part of a large Ford-Lincoln-Mercury collection. Today, it displays an older, high-quality nut and bolt restoration with a recent freshening. Finished in tan and offset by black fenders and running boards, the station wagon is complemented by a chrome plated grille guard, a steel sun visor, excellent brightwork, beautiful wooden bodywork, a driver's side mirror, and black painted wire wheels with whitewall tires. The engine and the entire underhood area are equally impressive and feature period correct finishes, components, and fasteners throughout, with very little evidence of road use.

This handsome 1929 Ford Model 150-A Station Wagon is reported to run and drive very well. Rare and very attractive, it is well suited for continued enjoyment and the most eclectic of collections.
