Interesting "Henry Dearborn" Personal Letter To His Son "...Mr. & Mrs. Mason and family are at our house, the President [Jefferson], Mr. [Albert] Galtalin [sic] & Mr. [Robert] Smith have arrived. Mr. Madison is expected to morrow..."

HENRY DEARBORN. Secretary of War
October 5, 1805 Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, "H. Dearborn" as Secretary of War, Washington (DC), to his son Henry Alexander Dearborn, Extremely Fine. This personal letter to his son Henry concerns personal affairs, as well as the opening of the Political season in Washington. It reads, in part:
"... Mr. & Mrs. Mason and family are at our house,- the President [Jefferson], Mr. [Albert] Galtalin [sic] & Mr. [Robert] Smith have arrived. Mr. Madison is expected to morrow...".

Henry Dearborn's son was studying law under Judge Story in Salem, Massachusetts at the time and was courting one "Miss C." who his father advises was making, "...very light of any contemplated connection with you, she says that her friends would never have consented to her connection with you. I hope you will care as little about her as she appears to about you...". This personal letter has interesting and historic content, mentioning the names of so many historic American figures. It is very well written in clear, rich brown ink with some light folds. A complete transcript accompanies this letter.

Henry Dearborn was an American military officer and Secretary of War, fought at Bunker Hill, in Arnold's Quebec expedition, at Wyoming Valley, and in the War of 1812 took Fort George and York with heavy losses.
