Rare Printed Textile "Declaration of Independence" Type Illustrated As Item Number 58 In "Threads of History" (DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE). c. 1820-1825 Broadside of The Declaration of Independence, Printed in Red on Off-White Cotton Textile, Very Fine. This extremely rare, historic textile is found Illustrated on page 72 of the reference "Threads of History," listed as Item number 58. It measures 32" x 27" being printed in Red ink on evenly toned Cotton cloth. Overall, for its age and style of manufacture, the quality is quite excellent, with just a couple of scattered, small holes in or near the upper corner tips. There are some minor, small fine splits, a long fine pull above Washington's head and a couple of tiny hole at the top border design. The entire text of the Declaration of Independence, plus all of the facsimile signatures of the Signers are surrounded by vignettes of each of the Seals of the Thirteen Original Colonies plus vignettes of Washington, Jefferson, and Adams. At bottom left is a vignette of the Boston Tea Party; at right, is a vignette of British General Burgoyne's famous Surrender at Saratoga. We sold a similar textile in our EAHA, November 14, 2008 Auction, Lot 2018, graded Choice VF for $7,080. This historic textile will certainly look excellent and impressive when properly framed for display. Early American will accept payment by check or credit card.
