Oil on Canvas - Ship at Full Sale - Signed M F H de Haas Lower Right Corner - Sight size 24" h X 40"- In an old period frame - No repairs and what appears to be the original streacher - Mauritz de Haas was born in Rotterdam, Holland where he studied at the Rotterdam Academy under Jacob Spoel (1820-1868) and landscape painter,  Nicolas Roosenboom (1805-1880).  Later, de Haas would study at The Hague under the distinguished marine painter, Louis Meyer.  Meyer was so impressed by his soon-to-be pupil sailing around the English Channel in pilot boats, sketching and studying the moods of water and sky that he became his mentor for four years.
