Description
Rare American Aesthetic Movement Brass- and Mixed Woods-Inlaid Rosewood Sofa, attributed to Charles Tisch, New York, fourth quarter 19th century, the back of tripartite form with a broken-arch crest and inlaid frieze above the center section, the arms with carved lion masques with open mouths, the front with four turned and carved legs, h. 53", w. 72", d. 27-1/2". Charles Tisch made an interesting Aesthetic cabinet which received first prize at the New Orleans Exposition of 1884-1885. Tisch donated this cabinet to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1889 where it remains today.
