Egypt, Late New Kingdom, 1196-1070, a very large and impressive Ptah-Sokar-Osiris figure. This wooden mummiform figure of Osiris standing (no base), with a separate plumed crown and a horizontal pair of idealized ram's horns that inserts into top of head. Pale brown-yellow gesso on both front and back sides with red-brown gesso wig (back side of wig with gesso losses) and outlined black eyes and brows; collar in pale blue arrow shaped design. Back side with single vertical band of hieroglyphics in heavy black paint. Some typical losses to gesso throughout. Plume with black horns. Solar disc side with red and green feather design; back side in red and pale brown-yellow checkerboard design. Some losses to paint both sides. A very powerful and impressive piece. H: 22.5", with attached plume headdress, H: 32". Ex. Washington D.C. Collection. Ventura County Collection. Restored and mounted the value and aesthetics of this piece would skyrocket.
