Title: [Organon]
Author: Aristotle Description: [117] leaves. a-b6, c4, d10, e6, f10, g-k6, l8, m6, n8, o-p6, q10 (-q10), z8. Text in Latin, in two columns. 16¾x11½, period wooden boards, leather spine (likely later), new endpapers.Very rare incunabular printing in grand format of Aristotle's Organon, together with Averroes' commentaries. These are Aristotle's core works on logic, i.e. Categories, Prior Analytics, On Interpretation, Posterior Analytics, Sophistical Refutations, and Topics (in this volume: Praedicabilium Porphyrii liber. Praedicamenta. Perihermenias libri II. Priorum Analyticorum libri II. Posteriorum Analyticorum libri II. Topicorum libri VIII. Elenchorum libri II.) This was issued as the first volume of Aristotle's Opera, which was printed at various intervals in 1483 for Johannes de Colonia. Each part has a distinct dated colophon and was sold separately. This part is complete in itself. The text includes the commentaries of the 12th century Andalusian scholar Ibn Rushd, know in European literature as Averroes. With occasional early ink marginalia. Leaf q10, a presumed blank, following Topicorum libri VIII, is not present in this copy; R1 begins the next text, Elenchorum libri II. Goff A962. Heading: Place Published: Venice Publisher: Andreas Torresanus et Bartholomaeus de Blauis Date Published: 1483 Condition reportBoards wormed with some loss, but with archaic charm; some minor worming to earlier leaves, mostly in the margins, leaf a1 a bit darkened with marginal dampstains, a few leaves within with minor stains, internally very good or better, quite clean and fresh overall, in impressive large format.
