Cole. 11x8¾, period full red morocco elaborately tooled in gilt, rebacked similar morocco, raised spine bands, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt.Early 18th century Bible into which are bound, possibly as issued, the plates from J. Cole's "The Historical Part of the Holy Bible...Exactly and Compleatly Describ'd in above Two hundred historys curiously engraved by J. Cole from Designs by ye best Masters," with the engraved title to that work preceding the printed title of the Bible. The plates are also found issued separately, but a 1723 Baskett Bible is described by Herbert (#965, with slightly variant imprint) as containing the Cole plates. The main Bible is preceded by The Book of Common Prayer, dated 1719.
