Title: Golfiana; or, Niceties Connected with the Game of Golf. Dedicated, with Respect, to the Members of All Golfing Clubs, and to Those of St. Andrews & North Berwick in Particular
Author: Carnegie, George Fullerton
Description: 26 pp. 6¼x4, original (?) plain stiff wrappers, cloth spine; custom-made half-morocco folding case. Third Edition. The second publication (after The Goff) entirely devoted to golf, this is another book of poetry originally privately printed in Leith in early 1833 as one long poem by the young George Carnegie (1800-1843); there is only one known copy of the first edition, according to Murdoch. The second edition was published later that same year, this time for public sale, with the addition of two poems. The three poems by Carnegie are: The Golfiad; The First Hole at St. Andrews; and Address to St. Andrews. In 1842, this third edition was published, in wrappers, with another long poem added. The poems were later republished in Clark's Poems on Golf (1867) and Golf (1875), and in Stewart's Golfiana Miscellanea (1887). Harry B. Wood wrote in his Golf Curios and the "Like": "My golfing library would not be complete without a copy of the immortal and now scarce Golfiana... [by Carnegie]." Donovan & Murdoch 190; Donovan & Jerris C5380; Murdoch 114.
