Of exceptionally high quality workmanship, each with its scabbard of deeply embossed and chased silver in Delhi style showing Ottoman influence, notably in the use of hatayi motifs. The scabbard of the saber further studded with eight large box-set emeralds on the obverse and two on the reverse, that of the dagger with seven large box-set emeralds to the obverse. The saber hilt of classic form and mounted en suite, the pommel set with a single large emerald, the guard with a large emerald on either ecusson and smaller emeralds set on the quillon terminals. The dagger hilt with pommel in the form of a horse's head with finely-detailed mane, superbly carved of deep violet agate with touches of cream and russet, the lobed bolsters modeled with voluted arches likewise derived from Ottoman forms. The saber blade curved, single-edged and bright- polished, that of the dagger double-edged with central ridge and lightly recurved, showing a fine, flowing silvery wootz damascus steel pattern throughout. Probably made at Delhi for presentation to the Ottoman Court. Mid-18th century. Saber 88 cm overall length, blade 69.2 cm, dagger 41 cm overall length, blade 26.5 cm. Condition I
